Jeff Burlingame

Jeff Burlingame

OWNER, COACH

Jeff is a passionate coach dedicated to helping as many people reach their fitness goals as possible. With a background in high school wrestling and college rugby, he is a long-time athlete and trainer with the experience and education to help anyone from the novice to the elite competitor, and the out-of-shape individual to the fittest of athletes.

Bobby Armock

Bobby Armock

GENERAL MANAGER / HEAD COACH

When it comes to fitness, Bobby has tried everything. He put his body through the paces with anything from powerlifting to distance running. When he dedicated himself to CrossFit, he found a regimen produced unmatched results. Having been a personal trainer, he made the natural transition to coaching CrossFit. What he most enjoys about coaching is being part of a community that brings together a diverse group of people supporting each other in fitness endeavors.

Leara Glinzak

Leara Glinzak

COACH

Leara’s passion lies in empowering others to achieve things in life that may have once seemed impossible in our own minds where she uses her background in art therapy to work through those mental blocks. She found a way to pursue her passion through athlete means at the age of 13 when she became a coxswain. When it comes to rowing, she believes when taught properly anyone can row, there is something beautiful and methodic about rowing, and that rowing translates to several CrossFit movements and can be programmed to align with goals toward those gains we are all seeking.

Mike Carr

Mike Carr

Mike is passionate about CrossFit. He loves that members trust the process as they consistently improve and make progress in the complexity of movements and exercises. He believes in the methodology and working toward becoming a well-rounded athlete is the best path to fitness.

Kevin Murphy

Kevin Murphy

COACH

Kevin is a lifelong athlete who’s played every sport imaginable, but his favorite to play has always been hockey. He has also spent some time body building and powerlifting. Kevin is gregarious and loves public speaking and teaching, so coaching is something that comes naturally to him. He is passionate about helping people shatter their physical and self-imposed mental limitations.

Kyle Greene

Growing up I played as many sports as a could, from football to swimming to soccer; I have always had a passion for sports and fitness. I found CrossFit in 2013 after returning from basic training for the Army and immediately fell in love with it. Shortly after, I transferred to Grand Valley State University from Ferris State University in 2015 after switching my major from Criminal Justice to Exercise Science where I received my CF L-1. What I love most about CrossFit is the community and the friends you make. Being around like-minded individuals who put their health and fitness first makes it easy and fun to come back to the gym day after day. I recently graduated from Grand Valley in April of 2017 officially obtaining my Bachelors in Exercise Science.

Nick Thimmesch

I played sports growing up; later years it was mostly narrowed down to football and then rugby. I attended Grand Valley State University and received my Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science. Coming from an athletic background, fitness has always been a major component to me. So from a coaching aspect, it is rewarding to see people reach their goals. Other than that, my hobbies include hockey, snowboarding, and relaxing. Always up for trying new things though!

Dakota Miller

I am a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a degree in Secondary Education and is certified to teach Social Studies and Physical Education. He currently teaches high school History at Kelloggsville. He has been CrossFitting for 3 years and coaching for just over 6 months. He will be getting his CF L-1 certification in October.

Joe DeVitis

Joe DeVitis

Dr Coach Joe started his CrossFit journey at CrossFit East Bay in Oakland, CA in 2010. Since then, he has been coaching CrossFit and Olympic lifting since 2011, even starting his own affiliate on the small island of Grenada at CrossFit True Blue. He currently holds a USAW Level 1 certification for Olympic weightlifting and (anticipated) CrossFit Level 1 certification. Currently a General Surgery Resident at Spectrum Health, Dr. Coach Joe enjoys teaching Barbell Club and watching athletes become more technically proficient in the Olympic and Power lifts.

Angela Silsby

I started attending Friction CrossFit shortly after it opened. I was bored with working out on my own and wanted something a little more challenging. I started this journey at a more “mature” age and without a long history of athletic endeavors. However, the decision to come to coaching really lies with the athlete that walks in and thinks it looks impossible due to age, previous injury, or overall health/conditioning. Due to the inspiring coaches at Friction, fast forward three years, I decided to get my CF L1 and continue my pursuit to learn as much as possible and share it with others. We always applaud the loudest for the athlete that has to push their own personal boundaries, no matter how long it takes. It is one of my favorite things about CrossFit. When not at Friction, I am involved in dog rescue/fostering and full time job that won’t let me wear gym clothes.
