So after being informed I am the “Athlete of the Week” I began to count the many things I have learned in my almost three years of belonging to the Friction tribe…then I remembered I suck at math so I stopped counting badly.  I am sticking with the top 10(ish) to reminisce over.
1) The entire LIST of movements I do NOT like are going to be in a WOD, all at once, because Bobby says “you should make these movements your Bitch”…or something like that.
1a) Never tell your coaches what movements you do NOT like.
   1b) REALLY…its a trick!
2) I get to wear funny shirts that sometimes even have curse words on them…*big gasp* because CrossFit shirts say funny shit!
3) If I surround myself with A LOT of amazingly awesome people I can’t help but try to emulate them.
3a) Then wonder where they hide their super hero costumes.
4) I am happier and healthier EVERY TIME I choose Sore over Sorry.
5) WOD DRUNK is real!   While recovery is faster and it also has a different kind of hangover, it should be noted this is NOT the time to make critical decisions.
5a) OR do math of any kind.
6) It is possible to shut up the voice in my head that says “You Can’t”…even if you have to *borrow* another athlete’s voice who is yelling next to me saying “You Can” or “Pick up that bar, Bitch!” (or some version of that)
6a) Become the athlete that yells “You Can” to others…I never know when it will make all the difference in someone’s struggle.
7) Do my homework…often.  Friction has Stupendous coaches.  But in the end my continued effort goes a long way to fixing stuff, they can’t do everything for me, no matter how nice that would be.
8) Spend the money for a good sports bra..it’s money well spent.
9)  Getting Healthy means half of a watermelon is no longer dinner…mostly.  Trust me on this…life is not fair.
10)  I’ve visited several CrossFit Boxes...Friction is by far the most fun and most welcoming.
11) Hey I said 10 ish…so my final item is I know I have only scratched the surface of what I need to learn and what I want to accomplish.  I could not ask for a better crew to join with torn hands, bruised knees/shins and dripping sweat, yelling “You Can”.
Thanks
ps I want to write something cool like *drops the mic*   But what I really need to write is my experience of “becoming” an athlete has been amazing and I wouldn’t trade the self confidence or the friendships for anything…and where is the watermelon?
