I’ve been feeling a little philosophical and existential lately, next week will be more weightlifting focused, I promise.
I was recently asked about what makes us different than any other gym in Grand Rapids. Now, they were asking about Friction CrossFit and not Victory Kid Barbell. In my mind, they are one in the same because almost all of you are members of the Friction.
So, what does separate us (Victory Kid Barbell) from everyone else in Grand Rapids?
First off, we (will) have two USAW L-1 coaches. I’m not one to brag, but we know our stuff, especially (Dr.) Coach Joe. He has had more experience than I, he has worked out in several official barbell clubs and has trained with and learned from some of the best in the sport of weightlifting. That knowledge and type of experience does not come quickly.
We have both done weightlifting competitions as well. We know the standards and what it takes to get those beautiful three white lights as well as making the lift look beautiful as well. Olympic weightlifting is a very graceful and athletic sport that requires a lot of coordination. We can take you through the steps of the fundamentals, learning to train with weightlifting, training to get better, and possibly even competing. WE can get you there.
Lastly, I firmly believe we separate ourselves further not by our knowledge, but by how much we care. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. We make it a priority here at Victory Kid Barbell, and Friction CrossFit, to establish and maintain relationships with the members we have. A positive relationship allows us to help us help you. We can push you a little harder and you can trust us because we have your best interest and safety in mind.
Weightlifting is a very fun yet frustrating sport. No matter the outcome of our training session, us coaches will make a point to see the positives of the session. No session goes without progress, it may not be progress in weight, most of it will be mental or technical. Progress, nonetheless.
